'Lost at Sea' Mask
|
| |
This mask was actually inspired by the Decemberists song 'For My Own True Love (Lost At Sea)' from their album 'Picaresque.' Everything was done by hand; right down to the netting/veil I knitted. There's even a letter (which I have transcribed) to a lost love in a bottle. I'm still looking for a ship's stern to construct myself, but until now the plastic one will have to do. Copyright Ashland Pym 2007 Media: Mask: Felt, Acrylic Paint. Details: Cotton yarn, charms, dried seahorses, plastic ship, jade turtle, Angelina fiber (for the foam), shells, glass bottle, sketch paper, calligraphy ink.

I have also compiled a collection of detail shots:

The story of desire and possession. More important, it's the story of our inability to appreciate what we have. Copyright Ashland Pym 2006 Media: Graphite and Colored Pencil

(That's 'a little something extra' to my friends who are unfamiliar with the vernacular of the Deep South.) These are just some fun little things I threw together at one point or another. I enjoyed working on them and so I would love to share them.
